Large painting for TV series – Copenhagen

I have in 2016 completed a large painting for DR – the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, where I was hired to create a painting for a major production, a new drama series called Herrens Veje – or “Rides Upon The Storm”,(English title) which is currently being produced there. The serie´s theme embrace the subjects of faith and religion, and will last 2 seasons, the first starting in Fall 2017. I created a large composition consisting of several biblical figures in a landscape, designed to hang at a large meeting rom. It is an image which visually will have a important function, and appear several times in the course of the series.
It was a very challenging project, with the preparations being made with only few weeks in advance in Oslo, the painting itself was made at DR in Copenhagen, were i was living for approx. one month.
The canvas measures 1,70 X 3,70 m , and it was a huge task to accomplish the painting, due to the compositions complexity and the very short time i had to complete it – approx. 3 weeks.
I painted the image in acrylics, since it is fast drying, making it the most convenient medium to use. My favorite medium is oil – due to it´s optical and handling qualities; but it is a more demanding medium, and the longer drying time also makes less suitable to use in projects whith short deadine.
The TV team contacted me in the middle of July, and the planning/sketching started in and was carried through August, the painting itself started in the beg. of September. Most of the process was closely followed by the scenography team, so they could ensure it would meet their requirements and work well under filming.
